I was born and raised in Bielefeld, Germany. In 2001 I passed my A levels. I followed my passion and took a one-and-a-half year practical course at a private art school to prepare for art studies. In 2003 I passed the qualifying examination and began studying graphic design at a technical college in Münster. I chose illustration as my main subject. During my final years at the college I became acquainted with the Danish art group surrend who were living in Berlin back then. Their permanent members, Jan Egesborg and Pia Bertelsen, gained a great deal of media attention on account of their sharp-tongued political satire. In 2009 we had our first joint exhibition in Berlin. It was about the fictional artist Moll Morgengrau who thought pessimism and depression to be essential for an artist’s life. During the same year we put on another exhibition in Copenhagen about climate change.
In 2010 I got my diploma. My final year project consisted of twenty caricatures of politicans from all over the world.
Through the following years Jan and I continued to work mainly on poster series.
After getting positive feedback for our work on a poster series about Naples, Jan decided to start creating children’s books. He was working on the story and I was supposed to deliver the artwork. On August 30th 2013 our first book was launched onto the Danish market. It got great reviews in the Danish media, for example in Ekstra Bladet and Politiken.
In 2014 our second book was published and received ever better reviews than the first one. It sold out in the same year.
Meanwhile, book no. 3 is out and there are yet more to come.
So check out the artwork, enjoy and do not hesitate to let me know what you think!
